Brahmas fall to the Knights

Unable to carry their momentum from their previous home game, the Brahmas were defeated by the Katella Knights at their home game last Friday, 39-19.

Offensively, the first quarter played out in silence with no touchdowns made from either side. However, after a long run and a rushing touchdown made by Katella, the score was brought to 0-7 by the end of the first quarter.

Senior Cole Watson opened up the second quarter with an interception, giving the Brahmas possession at their 18-yard line. Yet, due to a series of unsuccessful offensive plays, the possession of the ball was turned over on downs on Katella’s 46-yard line. This resulted in another rushing touchdown by Katella, bringing the score to 0-13.

At the end of the second quarter, senior Mikey Gorbea II finally scored for the Brahmas with a one-yard rushing touchdown that brought the score 6-13. Despite this effort by Diamond Bar, Katella responded with their own 46-yard rushing touchdown and a successful PAT, setting the halftime score at 6-20, in favor of Katella.

Capitalizing on a Katella offensive mistake, the Brahmas recovered a fumble to begin the second half. With possession in favor of the Brahmas on Katella’s 13-yard line, junior quarterback Ryan Lewis completed a 13-yard pass to sophomore Kai Jenkins for the Brahmas’ second touchdown. Another missed PAT attempt by the Brahmas set the third quarter ending score at 12-20.

Seeming unstoppable, Katella opened the final quarter with a 13 point-run within a few minutes. As Diamond Bar reached for a final push, senior Darrin Veloso completed a 50-yard pass to junior Maddox Bernardino for their third touchdown. The successful PAT that followed was still not enough, as the Brahmas fell to the Knights, 19-39.

The Brahmas now have a 1-4 overall record and will play their first league game against the Rowland Raiders on Friday.
