‘Tis that time of the year again! And no, I’m not singing Deck the Halls…
It is t-minus one month until the grandiose homecoming dance.
My only problem is, I’m behind the game. I need to find my dream date, dream dress, dream shoes, dream nails… ASAP.
Now, you may be thinking, “Allison, this isn’t prom.”
So what??
This is one of the biggest moments in a girl’s life. A chance to jump around, dance, and spend time with those closest to you… and perhaps with a cute guy if you’re extra lucky. Ugh. With a few dances under my belt, I have concocted my elaborate plan for a perfect homecoming night.
Step 1: Find a date. While I haven’t exactly been successful with this task in previous years, this time, I’ve carefully schemed since the first day of school to ensure I have a date. Sitting down in each class, I nonchalantly drop the bomb: “So who’s going to hoco?” Depending on my classmates’ response, I reply with variations of “Oh yeah, I don’t have a date.” Strategic. Surely one day my hard work will pay off as I receive a bouquet of flowers and say yes to the love of my life.
Step 2: Secure my dream dress. Don’t make the rookie mistake of waiting only a week before the dance. While you frantically scour endless websites, the horrific sight of “SOLD OUT” will devastate your hopes. This year, I began my dress search a month in advance, searching websites like OhPolly, Windsor, and every other site. Next week, I’m going in person to try on this dress I’ve eyed for an eternity. I hope it’ll work out.
Step 3: Accessorize! My perfect outfit does not stop at the dress. While the dress may be at the forefront of my look, it needs to be accompanied by the right shoes, jewelry, nails, and much more. Trust me boys, you don’t know how much of a drag it is looking for a set of nails that will match with everything else. From the thumb to pinky finger, each and every nail must be exquisitely painted. It is even more tedious to find heels that perfectly accentuate your height while still being dance-able. Deciding between gold and silver jewelry will be a demanding task as well. UGH! Nevertheless, I will be quite the stunner.
Using this plan, I will have the best homecoming experience ever. This means spending hours and hours getting ready, standing in the sun forever to take photos, and arriving at the venue too exhausted to dance.
Cheers to homecoming season and good luck with your own endeavors.
