Strutting down the streets of New York, they’re clad in bold blazers, authoritative jumpsuits, and high pumps. Who are these divas catwalking down the metropolitan? It’s not Bella Hadid or Kendall Jenner, but the cast of the upcoming film The Devil Wears Prada 2.
After approximately two decades, the sequel to the comedic fashion-inspired film The Devil Wears Prada will be released in May 2026. The film is set to be centered around the unfriendly reunion between Miranda Priestly, the editor-in-chief of a high-fashion magazine, and her ex-assistants, Emily Charlton and Andy Sachs. All of whom hold positions as top editors of their magazines.
Anne Hathaway portrays Andy Sachs, an ambitious and aspiring journalist who initially showed little interest in fashion and found an affinity for it while working at Runway, a high-fashion magazine. The most notable scene of the original film is when Sachs shows up in her first luxury outfit at the office, glamorously decked head-to-toe in Chanel. In lieu of the delicate, sleek silhouettes of the first movie, Hathaway teases Sach’s rebranded wardrobe, which consists mostly of androgynous attire and a laid-back style that adapts to New York City.
Miranda Priestly, the haughty editor of Runway, now finds herself in a difficult position and requires assistance from Andy Sachs. Despite the fluctuations of her role, Miranda Priestly’s wardrobe remains a continuation of her past collection. In homage to Priestly’s elegant style in the original film, her actor Meryl Streep has been spotted walking in and out of movie sets, sporting Lanvin trench coats while donning the classic pixie cut.
Nigel, the art director of Runway magazine, Andy Sach’s career and fashion mentor, and one of Priestly’s most entrusted subordinates, is also making a reappearance in the film. Nigel’s actor Stanley Tucci has showcased Nigel’s timeless style, smartly-patterned suits paired with leather loafers.
Emily Charlton, now an assistant-turned-executive, assumes a certain boldness in her outfits. Charlton’s actor Emily Blunt teases her character’s new assertive style in a chic pinstripe corset suit with a lace-up bodice and thick shoulder straps. The corset suit contrasts with Charlton’s past outfits while working under Priestly, perhaps signifying a change in style after breaking apart from Priestly. Shortly after the debut of the outfit, Blunt left the audience with another surprise: platinum-blonde Emily Charlton.
Newcoming actors of the film reportedly include Kenneth Branagh, who is playing Priestly’s husband, Patrick Bramell, who will portray Sach’s new love interest, Simone Ashley, Lucy Liu, Pauline Chalamet, Tracie Thomas, B.J. Novak, and Justin Theroux.
Through the behind-the-scenes, it’s unmistakable that the world of timeless and contemporary fashion are no longer separate but emerging. The transition from the first film, which focused mainly on classic styles, to the second film, which adds a twist of free-spiritness, shows that there is much to anticipate in terms of the new fashion perspectives the movie will bring in the next few months.
