May AOTM: Addie Woo

Within the two years that stunt has emerged as the latest CIF sport, senior flyer Addie Woo proved herself to be an integral part of Diamond Bar’s stunt team. With performances such as scoring 62 points in a win over Walnut and her efforts towards many astonishing titles as a team, Woo established herself as one of Diamond Bar stunt team’s top tumblers, majorly contributing to the team’s immense success

“This season, I think we were a lot tighter than last and as a team, closer to each other,” Woo said. “I feel like the chemistry and the dynamics was just there so I think we were a lot better this year.”

After cheerleading since her sophomore year of high school, Woo picked up stunt during her junior year as it resembled her previous experience in gymnastics. Throughout her time on the team, she grew to love many aspects of the sport, some of which she enjoyed more than those of gymnastics.

“With gymnastics, it was more of an individual sport, but stunt is a team sport,” Woo said. “I like the feeling of working with the team because there is more of an excitement when you’re winning, and it really pushes you to work together.”

Winning back-to-back Hacienda League Championships as a part of DBHS Stunt, Woo has also been named Second Team All-League for stunt in both her junior and senior years. Woo has made notable accomplishments during her time and has positive memories of the past two years.

“There were a lot of times where it’s really scary learning a new skill,” Woo said. “But I think that it’s really satisfying when you hit a skill, and I think that it was a really good two years.”

Through the sport of stunt, Woo has learned several key lessons that she could apply to both her sport and her everyday life. She especially emphasized teamwork as a major part of the sport of stunt.

“You see how to encourage your teammates and other people,” Woo said. “You can tell when someone is feeling down and when that happens you just have to step up and bring the energy to the team.”

As Woo’s high school Cheerleading and Stunt career comes to an end, she now has her sights set on a new sport to compete in at the collegiate level. Woo is already committed to Chapman University in which she is set to join their dive team next year.
