Diving for redemption

Swim plunged back into action with renewed vigor after opening the season with a nail-biting loss. The Brahmas continue their momentous stride through the 2024 season, currently holding a 3-1 league record.

Despite the team’s undefeated streak in the previous season, the Brahmas faced a crushing loss against Walnut in their first meet of the season on March 14. The boys fell to the Mustangs by a mere four points with the final score being 83-87. The Lady Brahmas completed the meet with a score of 70-100.

This setback, however, did not dampen the spirit of the team as many athletes took this experience as motivation.

“I plan to train harder and attend more club practices,” senior Alex Canales said.

Following the departure of key seniors during the offseason, head coach Monique Tahauri and her coaching staff had to make major adjustments to the team’s structure. Nonetheless, they remain confident in their team’s potential. With the majority of swimmers boasting extensive experience from competitive travel clubs, Tahauri and her coaching staff were eager to showcase the immense talent Diamond Bar has to offer.

The team of over 100 swimmers trains everyday, each pushing past their limits for the success of the team.

“My individual efforts impact the team as a whole by helping the team earn points during matches for individual events and also relays,” sophomore Scott Matsumoto said.

While Tahauri and her staff hold high expectations for their swimmers, they also emphasize balance, rewarding rigorous training with fitting moments of camaraderie and enjoyment.

“We train hard and play hard,” Tahauri said.

She rewards her swimmers’ discipline in the water with memorable nights by the pool and pasta parties leading up to big swim meets. She believes these occasions make for a fun, yet rewarding season.

In light of the close defeat at the beginning of their season, the Brahmas swiftly regained their focus and secured consecutive wins against Rowland and Wilson, in addition to a clean sweep across all four levels against Los Altos.

The Brahmas will take on the South Hills Huskies in a home meet this Thursday at 3:30 PM.
