From sad girl anthems to groovy R&B beats, here are the top five artists that got us all through the ups and downs of 2021.

Doja Cat: Since dropping her third album, “Planet Her,” the artist has made sure to keep her fans excited, performing numerous variations of her hit song “Say So” and kicking off an explosive tour, claiming the title of our generation’s it girl.

Bruno Mars: Expanding on the upbeat sound he brought us in “Finesse,” Bruno Mars’ third studio album, “An Evening with Silk Sonic,” gifted 2021 with the funky R&B beats we didn’t know we needed. Songs such as “Leave the Door Open,” and “Smokin Out the Window,” were most popular with their catchy lyrics and harmonic vocals.

Tyler the Creator: Offering that perfect blend of R&B sound reminiscent of the 80s and his own unconventional style, Tyler’s newest persona “Tyler Baudelaire” gives listeners a sneak peek into the lavish life of Tyler himself. Yet, the depth of the album isn’t lost, with “Call Me If You Get Lost” providing heartfelt stories and a feeling of vulnerability beneath the boisterous sound of this mixtape.

Lana Del Rey:  Encapsulating the roller coaster of emotions we’ve all felt throughout 2021, Del Rey’s two albums gave us two different sides of the artist: a continuation of the traditional, ‘Great Gatsby’-esque persona in “Chemtrails over the Country Club” and a more boundless, and solemn  Lana in “Blue Banisters.”

Olivia Rodrigo: With Tiktok boosting her name into fame, Olivia Rodrigo dropped her first studio album, “Sour” in late May of 2021. Through powerful instrumentals and emotional lyrics,  the artist single-handedly provided us with the perfect breakup album.
