Girls basketball start their season undefeated
Off to a well-defended start, Diamond Bar High School girls basketball showed their dominance on the court, winning the first game of the season against La Mirada, 79-37.
With new personnel this season, the Lady Brahmas anticipate having a successful season. With a new coach. Jessica Samson, the Lady Brahmas have high hopes and expectations this season.
“We have a lot of potential that we are looking to maximize,” Samson said.
The team practices and trains every weekday afterschool and also Saturday mornings for two hours each session. In preparation for their season, the girls focused on refining their skills, which include skill work, drills, strength-training and conditioning.
“Our goal is to improve from last year and improve our overall record,” Samson said.
Securing the blowout win against La Mirada by 42 points, the team looks forward to using their momentum for future competition. Although they put out an impressive victory, there are still improvements that can be made.
“It feels great starting off our preseason with a win, and it also revealed many things we could improve on to get better,” sophomore Erika Liang said via Instagram.
The team looks forward to playing against top teams such as long-time rivals Chino Hills, Summit and Eleanor Roosevelt, hoping to play more skillful players.
“We are glad to come out with a win for our season opener. We just need to work on not giving up just because we have a lead,” senior Avril Ho said.
