Brahmas remain undefeated on the road
Building on their three-game win streak, the Diamond Bar High School Brahmas dominated against the Montclair Cavaliers on the road last Thursday, 34-7.
Senior running back and linebacker Isaiah Young led the Brahma offense with 42 rushing yards and four touchdowns. Sophomore linebacker Matt Galvan made 11 tackles on the defense, followed by senior cornerback Mathew Molina coming in a close second with six.
After a stressful opening drive that forced the Brahmas to punt the ball away, the Cavaliers responded with a touchdown, setting themselves up with an early 7-0 lead. However, the score was brought back to a tie after a two-yard rushing touchdown by Young. Shortly after, the senior gave the Brahmas their first lead of the game—after a 49-yard fumble that was returned for a touchdown.
To start the second quarter, Young scored an 11-yard rushing touchdown, extending the lead to 21-7. Though the Cavaliers had multiple opportunities to score in the second quarter, an interception made by junior wide receiver and cornerback Kai Jenkins in the endzone put an end to Montclair’s scoring drive. Another scoring opportunity for Montclair was cut short late in the quarter after a red zone interception made by Young.
Young and the Brahmas continued their dominance with a six-yard running touchdown early in the second half. There were multiple possession changes throughout the rest of the quarter, but no points were scored on either side, setting the score at 28-7 with 12 minutes left to play.
The Brahmas sealed their victory with a 15-yard touchdown pass from junior quarterback Abram Mejia to senior wide receiver Maddox Bernardino, who currently averages 122.5 receiving yards per game
With a 4-0 overall record, the Brahmas will play the Wilson Wildcats at home tomorrow, Sept. 16.
