Apps for a New School Year

With the virtual school year starting, it can be difficult to get back into the swing of things. But there are many apps and websites that can be used to make things easier, from learning new material to keeping up with academic tasks.
Here are a few that can help make distance learning more convenient:

Khan Academy

With distance learning, understanding lessons can be difficult with the lack of hands-on lessons. The Khan Academy app makes it easy to stay ahead as well as review older concepts that you may need to use during the school year. It is also very organized and shows what topics you need to do next in a separate tab.
There are many Khan Academy videos within the app that go over a wide range of topics in subjects such as mathematics, science, language arts and computer science. In my experience, it has been easy to go over topics and learn new ones using their thorough, yet easy to understand videos and lessons. Overall, I would suggest trying out Khan Academy as an add on to lessons or for extra review.

Duolingo

Learning a foreign language can be difficult, especially without easy access to communication with teachers. Duolingo teaches foreign languages such as French, Spanish, Japanese and Chinese. It encourages consistent practice in small intervals, which makes practicing easy. Using Duolingo everyday for 10 minutes has helped me learn French as well as improving my syntax and pronunciation.
The app uses methods such as matching words together to construct a sentence, and matching words to images. This is very effective because it is an intuitive and easy way for someone to pick up a new language. Duolingo is already an app that has been recommended to me by several foreign language teachers, so if you have not tried it out I would highly recommend it.
