Lady Brahmas experience first round exit
After finishing 7-3 in the Mt. Baldy League, the Diamond Bar High School volleyball team advanced to the first round of CIF last Thursday, but lost 3-0 to Tustin High School.
“We [the team] were actually really worried that we had to play in a wildcard game, but it turned out that we didn’t and we just played a round one [CIF] game,” sophomore Sydney Humphrey said via Instagram.
The team played three sets, losing 12-25, 14-25 and 12-25.
Although the girls weren’t able to take a set from Tustin, Humphrey recalled that they were able to win a few of the longer rallies. In addition, middle blocker Stephanie Mosley played particularly well near the end of the last set, and senior captain Faith Vasquez saved many challenging spikes.
Humphrey also stated that one disadvantage the team had was their height compared to Tustin’s taller team. The Brahmas found it hard to defend their side of the net for this reason.
“They [Tustin] weren’t that good at serve receive and passing, but we didn’t take advantage of that,” Humphrey said.
This was the team’s last time playing with Vasquez, the only varsity returner this year.
The team will be moving to another league next year with junior captain Kailee Skidgel leading the team after Vasquez graduates. The girls will also be more adjusted to playing on varsity together considering that last year’s junior varsity now makes up the majority of the team.
