Football suffers key loss against Don Lugo

After a devastating 70-34 loss against first-seeded Chaffey through rain and thunder two weekends ago, the Brahmas once again failed to bring home a win, losing 62-7 against Don Lugo.

Last week, Diamond Bar High School  finished the first half within 8 points of Chaffey, 42-34. However, in the second half of the game, delayed to Saturday  due to a lightning storm, the Brahmas were unable to score.

Overall, the Brahmas defense could not stop the  running game, but showed improvement in their own offense. In the Don Lugo game, the Brahmas weren’t able to keep up with their opponent’s running back, allowing 7 touchdowns from rushes.

During the first quarter, the Brahmas were overpowered by Don Lugo. They weren’t able to score, but Don Lugo found the end zone three times, bringing the first quarter score to 20-0.

At the start of the second quarter, Don Lugo’s running back scored  another touchdown and converted on the two-point attempt to make it 28-0. The Brahmas also gave up the ball on offense, unable to stop Don Lugo from converting an interception into a touchdown. Don Lugo was able to find another running touchdown when the Brahmas couldn’t find anything on their drives bringing the first half to a close, 42-0.

Starting the third quarter, Don Lugo had another running touchdown on the first drive of the quarter. Once again, the Brahmas weren’t able to find the red zone for any points, which allowed Don Lugo to score again by a run in the last minute of the third quarter, making the score a dominate 55-0.

However, the Brahmas didn’t finish the game completely scoreless, as junior Dylan Karanickolas was able to find senior Matthew Uballe on a 38-yard pass for a touchdown. However, they gave up yet another running touchdown to Don Lugo’s secondary running back, resulting in a final score of 62-7.

Even though the Brahmas lost this game, they still have a chance to make CIF. On  Friday, the Brahmas must win the home game against 0-4 Montclair to have a chance to be part of the CIF tournament.
