Brahmas finish preseason winless

For the Diamond Bar High School football team, preseason has not been going its way. Friday’s match fell into that same pattern as the Brahmas were blown out, 50-12, by the San Dimas Saints, DB’s fifth loss.

For the second straight game,  DB was forced to play without sophomore quarterback Dylan Karanickolas. The Brahmas’ 12 points all came in the first half, scored by senior Charles Miller, who threw for a touchdown and ran for one.

The Brahmas started the game with the ball on their 35 after a penalty by the Saints. DB was forced to punt on their first drive, and the Saints scored right away and made the extra point after starting on their 48.

The Brahmas scored a touchdown on their second drive of the game after a 4th and 10 ended with Miller rushing for a 30-yard TD. But, a failed two-point conversion left DB behind, 7-6, with a little over seven minutes in the first quarter.

The Saints stretched the lead, however, with a TD and PAT on their second drive of the game with four minutes in the quarter.

It wasn’t until nearly an entire quarter that the Brahmas would score again on a 36-yard catch-and-run TD by junior Jeremiah Chukwadobe. But the team, once again, failed to convert a two-point conversion. In that same time span, the Saints scored two TDs, putting them up 28-12 as the game went to halftime.

For the rest of the second half, the Brahmas were held scoreless while the Saints continued to pour salt on the wound, scoring three more touchdowns, two extra points and a two-point conversion.

Next week, DB has a bye, but the following Friday is the Brahmas’ first game in league as they take on the Bonita Bearcats in the DBHS’ homecoming game.
