Party on Hollywood Boulevard
April 25, 2016
This year, prom attendees will be getting a taste of the celebrity life at the Madame Tussauds Hollywood Wax Museum from 7 to 11 p.m. on May 14. Located on Hollywood Boulevard, the venue itself strays away from traditional ideals of a romantic night.
With over a hundred sculpted wax figures, Madame Tussauds Hollywood is a popular tourist destination for visitors to Southern California. The realistically carved replicas of Hollywood celebrities are photo friendly and accessible to visitors, though the museum will be closed to the public for the night.
“We started looking for venues in November of 2014. We had to start early because we wanted to make sure we got a good venue,” Mary Gaxiola, AP Economics teacher and adviser to the Class of 2017, said. “Hands down, this is best choice; it has so much to offer. It’ll be a lot of fun for all the people involved in it.”
Gaxiola has worked with math teacher Shari DeCambra and English teacher Stacy Tenace over the past two years to organize and plan the event. Along with taking photos with the wax figures, students will have the option of participating in additional activities, such as playing casino games and making wax hands.
“It’s going to be great because even if you don’t like to dance, there’s going to be so much going on that you won’t be bored at all,” DeCambra said. “We’re going to have a photo booth and a lookout point, where you can take very pretty romantic pictures right on Hollywood Boulevard.”
For those seeking a more tranquil night, there will be a quiet seating area with food and beverage stations on the roof of the venue. There, soft music will be playing, while more amplified music will be playing on the second and third floors of the venue.
Parking structures, which attendees will receive directions to after purchasing tickets, have been reserved to avoid traffic problems during the night. Prom pre-sale tickets will be sold until April 29, and tickets are $180 for couples with activity cards and $190 for couples without. Starting on May 2, tickets will be $190 for couples with activity cards and $200 for couples without; ticket sales will end on May 11.
