After numerous victories, the Thundering Herd has claimed yet another winning title at the 19th Loara Band Review. Out of the 40 bands that competed on Oct. 31, Diamond Bar High School came out victorious with band, drum major, and colorguard claiming sweepstakes, and the Thundering Herd claiming first place overall.

DBHS’ marching band scored 94.45 overall, junior Rebecca Kimn scored 91.80 in the Open Class Military Drum Major category, and Color Guard scored 94.60 in Auxiliary, claiming sweepstakes for the second time this year.

The many bands that performed include those from Yorba Linda, Cypress, Diamond Ranch, Glendora, Riverside, and Chino.

“I believe that a strong mindset is key to becoming a successful drum major. And of course, I’ve been practicing continuously for the past few years,” Kimn said via Facebook.

During their last event at Placentia, the team suffered slightly due to the overwhelming heat. However, during this competition, the weather was more manageable for the Thundering Herd, and contributed to their confidence and performance.

The three divisions hope to finish strong in their last three competitions at the Chino Band Review, Otay Band Review, and the Arcadia Festival of Bands.

“We will need to practice each run through as if it’s our final performance so that when the time comes, we can perform just like our practice,” Kimn said.
