Diamond Bar versus Duarte results in first win

Diamond Bar High School football team earned its first win of the season Friday night against the Duarte Falcons. The Brahmas, playing at home, overwhelmed the Falcons with six touchdowns and the non-conference game ended 44-13.

The Brahmas took the lead in the first quarter with senior Anthony Vazquez kicking a field goal from the 33-yard line. The Falcons retaliated with a passing touchdown but they failed to make the two-point conversion. The Brahmas did not hesitate and senior running back Dimaggio Rico scored a 65-yard rushing touchdown with 22 seconds left on the clock. The Brahmas took the lead in the first quarter, 10-6 score.

Around three minutes into the second quarter, Rico scored another rushing touchdown. With 30 seconds left in the half, on fourth down, Duarte’s quarterback fumbled the snap and recovered it. Nevertheless, the ball went to Diamond Bar. The quarter was closed out with a 16-yard touchdown pass by junior quarterback Grant Mestas, giving the Brahmas a 24-6 lead at the half.

The third quarter began with another touchdown by Mestas with eight minutes and 30 seconds but the Brahmas did not get the extra point. Mestas also earned the final touchdown of the quarter, running in it with 32 seconds left on the clock. Rico made another appearance, scoring a 38-yard rushing touchdown at five minutes and 34 seconds after the Brahmas recovered a fumble by the Falcons at the 20 yard line. At the end of the quarter, the Brahmas were up by an impressive 44-6.

Diamond Bar remained on the offensive for the fourth quarter with a missed goal attempt at the 45-yard line. Ricco ended the game with 146 yards rushing and three TDs. .

The Brahmas hope to continue this momentum into next week’s Branding Iron game against their rivals, the Walnut Mustangs.
