Encouraging a healthy lifestyle

Spreading medical awareness to his students, Diamond Bar High School athletic trainer Chase Paulson teaches students to live a healthy lifestyle, not only in his classes, but also through his social media.

Paulson uses his 15-year experience in football, wrestling, track & field, rugby and marching band to help direct athletes to a healthier lifestyle.

As the athletic advisor, students go to him if they have any issues with their physical performance or any questions about the body, injuries or rehabilitation.

“My role in athletics is to support the student athletes who are not performing optimally due to injury, soreness/fatigue, or other issues related to physical, mental, or emotional instances,” Paulson said. “If an athlete has an issue with an injury, or other condition, they can see me for an assessment, treatment plan, referral for advanced care, or to simply seek advice.”

Paulson has been the school’s athletic advisor throughout his 12 year tenure here at Diamond Bar High School. Using technology has always been part of his class, with or without social media.

“With our new technology, we will be sharing a better inside look to the field of athletic training and sports medicine,” Paulson said. “We want to include our sports programs and see if the athletes and coaches will help us with behind- the-scenes looks at these programs.”

Paulson has always wanted to extend his knowledge and support to as many people and students as possible.

With social media, he’s able to expand his reach to thousands of viewers online and educate those interested in his subjects.

“Jumping onto social media and using the school’s website to help communicate with the students, parents, staff, and community increases my ability to connect,” Paulson said.

Using his platform, Paulson has been able to share advice and provide support to more than he ever could within the bounds of his classroom.

Students taking his class are also able to learn how to manage, create and post on social media platforms, teaching important marketing, digital, and communication skills.

“My students are a huge part of this as they can learn how to create proper social media posts with a healthcare-based approach, and give insight to their peers as to what we do in class,” Paulson said. “I can share advice from other content creators that is backed by research.”

Paulson is very excited for the future of his platforms, as he has many important events planned. From the San Gabriel Valley Regional Occupational Program, he has been given a large grant that will help him expand his platform even more.

“Having this technology sets us at DBHS apart from other high schools,” Paulson said. “This will allow our students to learn about the technology [which] our athletes can use to enhance their performance and recovery from injury,” Paulson said.
