As the last note resonated and a round of applause settled from the audience, a bittersweet feeling filled the air as seniors said goodbye to Diamond Bar High School’s music program for the final time.
On Apr. 25, all band and orchestra groups performed inside the gym for their annual Spring Music Concert, which signified their last concert of the year. Led by Mrs. Santos and Mr. Acciani, various music groups perform a variety of songs from famous movies such as; Totoro, Howl’s Moving Castle, and Star Wars.
In preparation for the concert, students were only given two and a half weeks to learn multiple pieces, miniscule in comparison to the whole semester they received for their winter concert. However, with rigorous after-school rehearsals and practice, they had an amazing performance.
“With both my parents in the audience cheering for me, I feel like this was a great last performance. But I am sad that this is my last performance,” senior Suheil Macias said. “I feel satisfied with my four years in this program.”
Seniors have accompanied one another for four years of music with one another, growing a bond similar to family, sharing one of their final moments with each other. Through the strenuous marching band seasons, trips to New York, and countless hours practicing with one another many have created authentic bonds with one another.
“I’m glad that I was able to join this program and gain many life-long friends.” Macias said. “I’m also thankful for Mrs. Santos and Mr. Acciani because they do so much for our program, such as teaching all the different groups.”
However, not only were seniors feeling the sadness of their last performance, but underclassmen as well. Because underclassmen all looked up to their beloved section leaders, it made the Spring Music Concert their last farewell to their section leaders.
“It’s sad to see my section leader go, because he has given me so many good memories from the start of marching band,” sophomore Maxwell Huang said. “When I was a freshman, he always drove our section to hang out and create memories together.”
After the concert, the sections will change as new section leaders are appointed and incoming middle school students for next year.
“Next year our section won’t be the same, not without all of our seniors, as they were always so fun [to be around],” junior Hayden Toneck said. “But I will try my best to keep everyone happy and connected.”
