Digging their way to CIF after finishing second in league play, the Diamond Bar High School girls volleyball team ended the season in the semifinals without regrets. With this season came many challenges both internally and externally.
Game-ready with high spirits and determination, they moved forward to CIF after the girls swept Wilson High School. This win allowed the team to secure second place in league with a record of 18-9 overall.
The team started CIF on Oct. 19 against Pacifica Christian High School, winning 3-1. The team won their second round of CIF against Mary Star of the Sea 3-1, but lost in the Quarterfinals against Rancho Christian 3-0. They finished the season with an overall record of 21-9. Throughout the season, they identified their strengths and weaknesses, working to continuously improve themselves.
“I think that when it comes to the game, we struggle to serve a lot which is an uncommon struggle at the varsity level, but we are working toward overcoming it,” senior outside hitter Kavya Narayanan said.
Continuing to dedicate time, the girls spend a lot of time both in school and out of school refining their skills and improving their strategies, confidence and in-game mentality.
“Now, I try my best to either find a weak spot in their defense or hit it to their weakest passer hoping they won’t get a good pass,” senior hitter Samantha Doehla said. “Consistency is something I continuously work on every day at practice and in games with repetition.”
Despite their success this past season, many hope to see improvement next season for both themselves and the team. Nonetheless, ending their season off with several wins allowed for the team to bond and grow their skills for the future.
“I think spending time with teammates who cared and were genuine was also really nice because they were such a positive influence and made this season more enjoyable.” Narayanan said.
