After a season filled with highs and lows, Diamond Bar High School girls golf will take their shot at CIF.
The team eventually placed second in the Hacienda League with a league record of 5-1, falling only to Walnut High School during league play.
“We have been working hard since last season to improve by playing against tough competition in non-league matches, and tournaments,” head coach Roberta Garcia-Uyemura said. “The girls have put in a lot of hours out of season to improve their golf game.”
With six players playing in the Hacienda League Tournament this year, and five qualifying for the regional individual tournament, the team hoped for a great run at CIF. Out of the five individual players who qualified, only sophomore Juilet Oh moved on to the CIF Individual State Championship.
“We played pretty good that day,” sophomore Chloe Lam said about the Hacienda League Tournament. “We had a good chance of getting a good score.”
With the season coming to a close, the team is ready to wrap up the year strong with a great performance at CIF. Having shown much improvement since the start of the season, Coach Garcia appreciates the work put in by her players.
“The team continues to improve every time they get out on the golf course,” Garcia-Uyemura said. “Their dedication to the game and the many attempts out there to improve will pay off for them if not now than in the future.”
The team ended their season on Nov. 4 in the State Regionals Championship at Morongo Golf Club at Tukwet Canyon, placing fourth in the Southern Section Championship. They were 11-3 overall while 5-1 in league play.
While the team’s CIF run is over, they will continue to support Oh in the Individual State Championships, which will take place on Nov. 15 at Pebble Beach Links.
