After a decent start to the 2023 season, Diamond Bar High School girls golf continues to swing toward success.
The team has found great success in tournaments, placing eighth in the Brophy Tournament in Arizona and second in the Robert Murphy Tournament hosted by Great Oak High School.
“The team plays well, they enjoy competing together in golf matches,” head coach Roberta Garcia said.
Led by sophomore Angeleia Ortiz, junior Emma Lee, and senior Kaitlyn Wang as team captains, the team looks to maintain its midseason momentum.
“We have improved since our 1st match,” Garcia said. “The team looks for improvement every time they are out on the golf course.”
A notable match thus far was against crosstown rival Walnut. Despite the Brahmas’ eight-stroke loss to the Mustangs, the team showed their resilience and improvement in a total score of 198. Some standouts included sophomores Juliet Oh and Carol Yan.
“If we continue to play the way we have been playing we should make the team CIF competition,” Garcia said.
Although the team plays relatively well at the moment and made significant improvements, there are still some things that the team can work on.
“One thing we can improve on is consistency,” sophomore Yan said. “If we can all be a little more consistent then we would have even more stable scores and play a lot better.”
The team is currently second in the Hacienda League with five matches left in the regular season. If they win their last five matches, the Brahmas may have a chance to tie for first. The team hopes for both a decent finish in the Hacienda League, along with a far run in the postseason.
“I am really proud of our team, and I’m so happy of everything that we accomplished this year,” Yan said. “We went from playing in local tournaments to being invited to a tournament in Arizona where we played really well and I’m really looking forward to the end of our season and the beginning of the next.”
The team hosted the Tony Mcabe Classic Golf Tournament this Monday at Upland Hills Country Club.
