As a testament to their continued achievements, Diamond Bar High School ranked 427th nationally and 62nd statewide in the recent World Reports Best School Ranking. Boasting over 80 clubs and various courses and opportunities, our school hosts a niche for students with all kinds of diverse interests.
Teaching over 2,500 students, Diamond Bar High School is objectively known to be a prestigious and academically driven school. US News gives the school a scorecard of 97.59, based on the percentages of students who have taken or passed at least one AP Exam, proficiency on standardized testing, and graduation rates.
Holistically, this is what has placed Diamond Bar at the ranking it currently stands at. However, DBHS’s new principal David Hong does believe that a definitive ranking can never be placed on a school, given the various underlying factors that make up an educational institution.
“The formula they use is based primarily on test scores, not on aspects of a school that can be seen like the school’s climate, student activities, athletics and arts programs that are so special at DBHS,” Hong said.
“DBHS is a public comprehensive high school, and it should be a school that prepares students for whatever their future holds,” said Hong. “Whether students choose to enter the workforce, enlist in the armed services, or go to college, they should have opportunities to learn and acquire the knowledge and skills that will allow them to excel on their chosen path. The quality of education can’t be ranked like a product you buy on Amazon. My view of the school remains unchanged; I believe that our focus on the 5 A’s (Access, Activities, Athletics, Academics, and the Arts) is more important than focusing on rankings”
Despite the fact that rankings don’t take all five A’s into account, DBHS still excels in many of those aspect, with many athletics programs, and an even greater number of academic programs, including Brahma Tech, Pathways and Performing Arts Academy. Brahma Tech is a four year academic program with an emphasis on the application of STEM. The graduation rate is 98%, which is an impressively high percentage. Ranking #62 in California High Schools and #108 Stem High Schools, DBHS seems to be impressive in every aspect. However, the school still assesses its students’ areas of growth for improvement.
Hong furthered that the Data Team and Professional Learning Communities at DBHS continue to work together to ensure that all the data acquired by the school is used solely to make decisions that will improve educational opportunities for all students.
