Lady Brahmas putting their way through CIF championships
After being victorious in the Hacienda League Finals, the Diamond Bar High School girls golf team moves along into CIF Championships.
On Oct. 17, the first day of League Finals held at Shandin Hills Golf Club, freshman Juliet Oh scored 72-even and freshman Carol Yan scored 4-over-par. On the second and final day at Santa Anita Golf Course, Oh scored 1-under-par and Yan scored 8-over-par.
With an overall score of 156, Yan was just two strokes away from advancing to the CIF SoCal Regional Individual Championships.
Oh’s overall total of 143 placed her second at League Finals, qualifying her for the CIF Individual Regionals on Oct. 26.
“I felt pretty nervous because I was the only player that qualified,” Oh said via Instagram. “I’ve seen a lot of older players that could have more experience than me.”
Despite her concern, Oh shot an impressive score of 71 at the regional tournament, advancing her further to qualify for the CIF Individual Championship at Western Hills Country Club on Nov. 3.
“Putting was my strongest skill, that is how I get my birdies and save a lot of strokes,” Oh said via Instagram.
After successfully placing 14 out of the 20 competing Division I teams from the first round, held at The Huntington Club on Oct. 31, the Lady Brahmas anticipate playing in the second round of CIF Finals at Western Hills on Nov. 3.
“My word to the team is to just do what you’ve been doing to get where we’ve gotten now,” head coach Roberta Garcia said. “don’t change anything.”
