Around the world in a night
October 15, 2015
Centered on a theme of travelling across the plant in one night, the dance will have foods and decorations from different countries to go along with the mood. Featuring two dance floors, an underground refreshment stand, and karaoke rooms, the site, Riverside Municipal Auditorium, is the one that USB wanted to work with.
USB Commissioners Tatiana Perlaza and Sabrina May were the masterminds behind the planning for the event and chose the theme because of the many aspects it had to offer.
“We thought about what we could work with and it was cute. We could bring a lot and do a lot, especially for activities,” Perlaza said. “We didn’t want [the venue] to be squeezed. It’s in a cute part of Riverside, it’s pretty, and the street feels like Hollywood.”
The unique setting will feature two separate dance floors, one outside and one inside. After entering through the ticket booth, attendees will have a choice of going downstairs to take pictures in the picture booths, dancing, or heading to the karaoke booths, an activity that was not previously offered.
The venue was built as a World War I tribute to fallen soldiers and is commonly used as a concert hall; as such, it has state-of-the-art audio and lighting facilities. The building is also surrounded by gardens, fountains, and even a waterfall so students will have tranquil scenes if they feel the need for a break.
Participants can also walk outside the auditorium, where they will be greeted by two caricature artists and the second dance floor. Additionally, there will be an archway where couples will be allowed to take pictures.
Tickets for the Oct. 24 event are $50 per person with an activity card and $55 without. If both students in a couple have an activities card, prices are $100; prices go down with each additional card.
To help advertise the dance, USB has put Golden Tickets inside select food items in the Student Store; anyone lucky enough to buy a snack with a ticket in it will win a free ticket. Another way to earn free tickets is to enter USB’s picture contest on Instagram; the couple judged to have the best asking will earn a pair of tickets to homecoming. Winners will be announced today.
