Getting a date

February 12, 2016

The birds are singing and the sun is shining as you hide away in your room, feeling sorry for yourself; then you finish your day by eating ice cream as the sun sets, and the clock strikes midnight on another Valentine’s Day. But it doesn’t have to be like this. This could be the year that Valentine’s Day isn’t just another dreaded holiday, when you pray you don’t run into another so-in-love couple. Instead of spending some quality alone time, something you could do on any other weekend, why not get into the spirit of things and go out on a date?

The thought of asking someone out might be giving some of you the shivers right now, but it could be something fun. Even though you don’t have a significant other, it  shouldn’t be an excuse for not asking someone out for a day of making memories.

If you’ve been dateless for the past, however many, Valentine’s Days, now’s your chance. There’s nothing holding you back except for yourself. Just think about all of the fun you’ll be missing if you don’t take that first step. The 14th could be a day of great memories, instead of a day of anticipating all of the candy that will be on clearance at Target.

Remember that dates don’t always have to be romantic. It could be totally platonic, but you could still have an amazing day with your date. It just goes to show that there really is no reason for not going out with someone on Valentine’s Day, and being single does not justify staying at home.

Asking somebody out to anything seems to be the most terrifying thing in the world, and it probably is. Whether you’re a boy or a girl, the fear of rejection and feeling the sting of being declined is something that no one wants to go through. But at least you tried, which is all that really matters. Anyway, you can always go on a group date with friends if things don’t work out.

This might be a once in a lifetime opportunity. You won’t be able to turn back the clock and relive your high school life over again. Instead of regretting not asking out that cute boy or girl in your Chemistry class, get up and ask them on a date. You never know what might happen after just one date.
